Dazzle is a TV capture device, i can directly record the video input on my computer, but for some reason it records the files as VOB which is a pain in the ***. I cant use VOB with windows movie maker or upload it on youtube. The thing is, when i did it on xp, i only had to change the file extension to .MPEG and it would automatically change. Im not sure if the difference is the operating system, but Im just guessing. How do i get rid of this pesky VOB?!How do I change .VOB to .MPEG? Windows Vista. Dazzle keeps saving files as .VOB and I cant do anything with it

How can I watch Closed caption on a pc? ?
Hi,
I'm an english teacher abroad, and i've been recording some american shows on dvds for my classes.
But when I play them on a computer + in-focus the cc doesn't work.
I know that usually the dvd players work with subtitles, but in my case I'm recording the videos directly from my Satellite Dish.
I get to watch the ccs on my tv but not at work.
Is there a sofware I could use to see them on the computer?
The pcs I work with either have xp or vista windows

Your friends are idiots. My kids' rig is nowhere near the rig you just described, and they get 20fps or so.
My comp is similar to yours, with a couple exceptions. I run 2 Raptor 150's on RAID 0 and my video card is a 512 mb radeon 1650 pro. I get 60fps consistently in Shat.

Why would someone spend $3,500+ on a computer that they are going to replace in a year? I don't know what you need another computer for, but if you are just trying to be on the cutting edge, why not simply buy one of the new quad-core processors for about 1K instead of selling a system that you have put alot of blood, tears, and sweat into? Personally, I would like to see some more mass storage(500Gig+). Hard Drives are relatively cheap, and add value to a system, especially a Media-Center PC like this one. You will never get even close to your money back on this system, but I have never known anybody to build a computer and sell it for a profit a year later. If I had to make an offer, I would probably offer about $700.HOW MUCH do you want to bye it?? if not how much you recon??

That sounds like a pretty good deal. I got something that's about the same for about the same price. The only thing that sucks is HP's support. I'm currently in a little thing with them that involves the Better Business Bereau. However, my computer works really well and is great. (I also have the TV tuner, and it's fun stuff and comes in handy!)
I like Vista better than XP because slowly but surely, other companies are adapting. At first, no one was prepared, but it seems fine now. Most people will tell you that Vista sucks, but most of them don't know what they're talking about. Also, a lot of people will tell you that it uses more of your system's resources, but it actually just uses them more efficiently than XP does. Not to mention, with that setup, you'll be fine.
I don't know what Graphics Card is in the setup you mentioned, but if you're going to be any gaming or 3D rendering stuff, you might want to check into that. But other than that it seems like a great deal, especially with that monitor!
I've not used Vista, but I've known several people that have said to not upgrade yet until all the bugs have been worked out. The computer sounds great. I bet you could get all that for less though. Try tigerdirect.com or ebay.com. I got my laptop off ebay.

2. average ram, what is the speed of the ram?
3. don't buy a system because it has large hard drive but bad overall. you can always purchase external HDD with reasonable price.
4. good LCD size
5. bad OS. nowdays with vista around, you need at least xp professional. By the way, vista is not good (I've test it before I return to XP prof.) it's too big and takes too much computer resources. with 2.13 GHz processor, expect it to be slow.
Suggestion, get a custom PC. there are usually local builders. they give much better price and specs.
I just bought a new Gateway in July this year. Dual core, 500GB hard drive, 2GB RAM (can install up to 4GB), all the bells and whistles, Vista Premium Home Edition, Windows Media Center. Don't buy a Dell; tech support is overseas and I had major issues with them. Gateway tech support is in the USA, at least it was in July. I got this system for $849, NOT on sale. Media Center lets you watch TV through your monitor, so I bought an LCD monitor so I could do that. It rocks. I'm on that old Dell right now, six years later, but plan to get a Gateway laptop in a few months to replace it. It still works, but boy, is Pentium 4 different from dual core!!!

What I don't have yet is a TV tuner for the computer. Assuming Santa doesn't bring me one, I would like to get one that's decent and it looks like those tend to run $100 or more.
Before I make the investment, though, I do want to have some idea of how it will really fit in to my life. I have a DVR from the cable company that works reasonably well. I have Netflix streaming to the 360, as well as to the PC and then via s-video to the TV, and using a wireless mouse to stop/start it works well enough to watch a movie.
How do folks out there use Windows Media Center, especially with a TV tuner? Has it become ';...mehh...it's kinda cool'; or is it like ';How did I ever get by without this?';
I guess for me the one application I can think of off the top is to use it as a DVR and then, via media center extenders be able to stream the recorded stuff from the bedrooms w/o having to get more DVR's from Comcast....

I had a TV tuner card for my PC. It was nice because it let me watch basic cable or broadcast TV off of my computer. It worked sort of like a DVR. I was able to pause, but not rewind. I could also record shows any time, but the on screen guide didn't work as well as the DVR I had through replay TV.
Any of the tuner cards on the market should pull basic cable (up to 125 channels), however you won't get the same digital quality off of your tuner card that you get from your cable DVR box. My one regret is that I didn't spend the extra $20 for the HD tuner card so as of February 2009, it will be completely useless.

I have an 80Gb Zune. I have an HP Slimline with a TV Tuner (It came with the Tuner) and Vista Home premium. I am recording them on Dish Network. I found I could convert the file using windows movie maker. But this will take to long.
I recorded Cops from my tv to my recorded tv folder. but i want to put it on my Zune. I have that folder watched on my settings but none of the recorded shows show up in my collection%26gt;Videos
I tried to drag and drop the file into my collections and it says media type invalid. I was told i would be able to sync my TV Shows to Zune.
I have heard stuff about Dolby Digital and stuff and about Hd and SD recording .
Can someone give me step by step instuctions to sync these files onto my zune?

i got amd athlon 64 x2 6400+ 3.20 ghz 4 gig of ram ati hd 3850 momo gigabyte s series MW2 never lags
AMD wins out runs intel only with the help of it's BUS architecture called Hyper Transport(HT).
Advantage of HT is that it has a separate up and down lanes going in and out of the processor for each memory channel, while intel's FSB architecture has one common channel shared by all.
This will be clearly seen when you play a game, video editing, etc where you will need a lot of memory reads and writes, while in intel's architecture processor waites for data AMD's HT will enable the smooth deliver of all the time...
AMD still lags behind in power consumption and heat...
but intel has already replied to this AMD's HT via it's ';quick path'; and ';DMI'; in it's latest ';core-i'; series processors...
i would recommend core i-7 of intel...
quick path of intel is much similar to amd's HT...

AMD wins out runs intel only with the help of it's BUS architecture called Hyper Transport(HT).
Advantage of HT is that it has a separate up and down lanes going in and out of the processor for each memory channel, while intel's FSB architecture has one common channel shared by all.
This will be clearly seen when you play a game, video editing, etc where you will need a lot of memory reads and writes, while in intel's architecture processor waites for data AMD's HT will enable the smooth deliver of all the time...
AMD still lags behind in power consumption and heat...
but intel has already replied to this AMD's HT via it's ';quick path'; and ';DMI'; in it's latest ';core-i'; series processors...
i would recommend core i-7 of intel...
quick path of intel is much similar to amd's HT...
VHS to DVD conversion?
I have a friend who has asked me to convert a vhs tape to dvd, I might add its a recording, not a cinematic movie, so not copyrighting violation.
I have a vhs/dvd recorder that I have not been able to use to record from one to the other so far, and all the manuals have not been open on whether I can even do that with it. I also have a tv tuner with composite run by windows vista premium's mce.
My two questions are:
A) How can I play an external dvd player/ vhs/ gaming system using mce so I can record it and....
B) Could I play the tape on channel 3 with one vhs player hooked up via coax then record channel 3 with the dvd recorder?

I don't mean to brag but my laptop has 4GB of Ram, and Nividia 8900 video card, so having only 1GB of Ram isn't a lot. However I would estimate because you have a tv tuner card, and Vista Ultimate your computer would be worth around new $750-$800 but used around $400.

I was thinking of upgrading my cpu, or is this enough seeing as how its still dual core and I'm running 2 gigs ram, also my video card doesn't use any ram. I have no need for more ram because only 64 bit versions of vista can read 4 gigs and up, I'm using the 32 bit version.Do you think my pc is good or should I upgrade more?
It really depends on what you're doing, but to me it looks like you've got a kick-b眉tt system as it is. It should be fine for everything from heavy-duty gaming to intensive work such as CAD and video editing.

I was gonna say the processor could do with imrpoving but then i noticed it was dual core. To be honest I think that would cope with anything you threw at it.
I would say going to SLI if you are a gamer. You could get a new board to support that CPU that will also be a SLI compatible board. Get another 7300gt bingo...nice gaming rig. As it stands, I think upgrading the HDD to a SATA 3.0 drive would give you some benefits also. other than that, I see nothing....
To tell the truth, your spec is fine. The only thing that I would change/upgrade is the Video Card to maybe the 7900 or the 7950 or even better the 8600 or the 8800 - if you do gaming.
However if you just do surfing the web or word processing, your spec is fine.

Someone told me I was too vague and that I need to clarify, but I don't know how much more clear I can be. Here's my original question:
I have Windows Vista Home Premium with Windows Media Center, which I use for my TV tuners. Each tuner has PVR so it will record TV as I am watching so I can replay, pause, etc. Does anyone know where Media Center stores the video that is being recorded with PVR? It's not in the same folder that my actual recorded programs are.
So the question is (more clearly), where can I find the temporarily stored file that is BEING recorded with the PVR, when using Windows Media Center? So a program that I am just WATCHING, and never told the computer to record (because it automatically records everything I'm watching so I can rewind, pause, etc). Where can I find THAT file... the one that is always being recorded while I'm watching TV. Does that make more sense?

500 gigs of ram...wow...it is almost unbelieveable.
Well, the 2 GB of DDR2 is good.
However, the processor is... not so good. What socket is it? If it's 939 then it'll be worth less than an AM2 socket processor.
Next, that 7300 GT... is definitely not a 'gaming computer' piece of hardware. You might fool a buyer, but don't try to pass that off as a good gaming card here. Next, you didn't list a motherboard, which is also quite important.
Anyways, if you are good you might be able to spin this off in such a way that it would appear to be a very good computer. Although I'd never actually buy this comp (have my own and I'm happy with it), I think you should list it at $600 CAD/565 USD. However, you might not sell it for that price... I think that $500 CAD/470 USD is a slightly more realistic price you could actually sell it for.

Well, the 2 GB of DDR2 is good.
However, the processor is... not so good. What socket is it? If it's 939 then it'll be worth less than an AM2 socket processor.
Next, that 7300 GT... is definitely not a 'gaming computer' piece of hardware. You might fool a buyer, but don't try to pass that off as a good gaming card here. Next, you didn't list a motherboard, which is also quite important.
Anyways, if you are good you might be able to spin this off in such a way that it would appear to be a very good computer. Although I'd never actually buy this comp (have my own and I'm happy with it), I think you should list it at $600 CAD/565 USD. However, you might not sell it for that price... I think that $500 CAD/470 USD is a slightly more realistic price you could actually sell it for.

I'm looking to buy an all-in-one computer, price doesn't matter, and I saw this Sony Vaio RT series. I was wondering for how long the tech inside it would last for? (since technology is always going on). I'm really tired of my overheating laptop (Sony Vaio VGN-FZ283BN) and want something like the all in one.

I have a Hp Pavillion A 1710n with Windows Vista and using Broadband Msn I was looking around in the entertainment part of MSN and it said something about recording Tv so I tried and it said I needed to adjust my Tuner ? Most computers dont come with a TV tuner. Do you see a Coaxial (regular Cable TV cable) connection point on the back of your computer? If no then you don't have a tuner.
You need to purchase a TV tuner then you can watch TV on your pc. There are USB tuners available now so installation wont be an issue even if you dont know what a TV tuner is.
